Ingram Micro Wins CIO Web Business 50/50 Award

SANTA ANA, Calif., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Ingram Micro Inc., the world's leading wholesale distributor of technology products and services, has been named one of the top 50 Internet sites in the second annual CIO Web Business 50/50 Awards. This award program recognizes innovative Internet and intranet initiatives by organizations around the world.

The U.S. Reseller Business Center, Ingram Micro's award-winning Web site located at http://www.ingrammicro.com/, made its debut in 1996. It was designed as a virtual business center linking existing reseller customers, as well as potential customers, with manufacturers and more than 145,000 products. Site visitors have easy access to a purchasing environment that acts as a single source for supplier and product information in an on-line environment. An order status feature lets customers check order data in real time, giving the resellers the ability to confirm shipping dates and locations, obtain back- order information and identify shipping costs. An in-depth library, offering various resources is also available and includes topics such as bug fixes, product demonstrations and TechNotes, Ingram Micro's detailed technical product descriptions. The Web site supports an average of 6 million hits each day, an increase of 200 percent since May 1997.

"We are extremely pleased to have our Web site recognized by CIO Magazine. Our Reseller Business Center continues to evolve as our customers demand newer and more robust electronic commerce tools," said Ingram Micro's senior vice president and chief technology officer, David M. Carlson. "We will continue to invest in our Internet capabilities to help make our customers more efficient and responsive to their end-users."

The judging process involved a lengthy deliberation by a panel of CIO magazine editors, designers, and Web development experts who evaluated business value delivered by nominated sites. The judges specifically focused on integration of design, technical attributes of the site, contribution to the overall business and the success by which the blend of technology and design matched the needs of the site's target audience. "Fifty sites in each of the two categories emerged as standards of excellence worthy of emulation by the next generation of Web developers," said CIO Editorial Director Lew McCreary, who oversees the judging process for the program each year.

The Web is irrevocably transforming the terms and conditions of business. CIO honors the 100 top pioneering sites_those that are setting the benchmarks for a constantly moving target.
