Ingram Micro, Tech Data to Distribute Trend Micro's Enterprise Anti-Virus Products

Four-Product Windows NT Suite to Kick Off Channel Programs

CUPERTINO, Calif., April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Trend Micro Incorporated, the leader in server-based virus protection, announced today that it has signed contracts with Ingram Micro Inc.(NYSE:IM) and Tech Data (NASDAQ:TECD) to distribute in the United States and Canada, Trend's virus protection products for the corporate enterprise.

As part of its channel-wide kick-off promotion, Trend Micro is offering a "NeaT Suite" of four Windows NT anti-virus products for the Internet Gateway, Microsoft Exchange Server, file servers and desktop computers. This enterprise strength suite provides the most comprehensive virus protection solution available for Windows NT today.

Distribution of its server-based anti-virus products through the leading North American distributors is a key part of Trend Micro's ongoing strategy to offer to corporate users the technology it licenses to such key companies as Intel, Novell, Netscape and Sun Microsystems.

"We will invest heavily in the distribution and reseller channels that form an important part of our strategy," said Eva Chen, president and CTO of Trend Micro. "Some of our major competitors rely on large direct sales forces and give the channel weak support. We see this as a great opportunity that we will aggressively exploit."

Chen said that Trend Micro expects resellers of its products will receive two or three times the margins offered by competitors such as McAfee Associates.

"Trend Micro products are part of a new generation of anti-virus products for the Internet and E-mail. As the world's largest wholesale distributor of technology products and services we are pleased to bring Trend Micro's anti-virus products to our wide base of resellers," said Amy Hoffman, vice president of product marketing for Santa Ana, Calif.-based Ingram Micro Inc.

"We expect the anti-virus software market to continue growing rapidly, particularly for Internet gateway and other enterprise-wide applications," said Scott Maentz, Tech Data's vice president of Software Product Marketing. "Trend Micro is a strong player in this market, and we look forward to offering their products to our base of more than 50,000 value-added resellers and retail dealers."

The NeaT Suite consists of:

* For the Internet gateway -- InterScan VirusWall, PC Magazine's Editor's Choice. Scans SMTP e-mail, Web HTTP downloads and FTP file transfers. Offers optional blocking of Java and ActiveX controls.

* For Intranet e-mail/groupware -- ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange Server, real-time virus protection for Exchange Mail and public folders. Includes scheduled scanning of mail boxes to detect residual virus infections. Best of Byte Finalist, Fall Comdex, 1996.

* For file servers -- ServerProtect for Windows NT, next generation virus scanning and the most robust remote installation and management capabilities on the market. Winner of Best of Computex, Taipei, Taiwan, 1996.

* For the desktop -- PC-cillin Network Edition. Virus protection for DOS, Windows 3.1, 95 and NT clients adapted for network-wide deployment and management. PC-cillin for Windows 95 was awarded PC Computing Magazine's Five-Star Award -- the highest in its category -- and Home PC Magazine's Editor's Choice Award.

Both ServerProtect and PC-cillin are NCSA-certified. The National Computer Security Association does not currently offer certification for e-mail and gateway virus protection products. The NeaT Suite is a "buy two, get two free" bundle. When resellers purchase any two of the four products they'll get all four for the cost of InterScan VirusWall and ServerProtect combined -- an SRP of $2,865 for a 50-user perpetual license and a year of free virus pattern updates.
