Ingram Micro Selects Alpha Microsystems, Omnitech Gencorp to Provide Support and Service on Unbranded Systems

SANTA ANA, Calif., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE:IM) , the world's leading wholesale distributor of technology products and services, today announced the selection of Alpha Microsystems (NASDAQ:ALMI) of Santa Ana, Calif., and Omnitech Gencorp Inc. of Miami, to provide warranty services and support for Ingram Micro's unbranded systems offering.

Through Frameworks(TM), Total Integration Services, Ingram Micro can build made-to-order unbranded systems at the request of its reseller customers. The company's unbranded systems include a one-year warranty, which covers seven- day, 24-hour telephone support and next business day onsite parts and labor.

The companies selected will help fulfill the warranty for unbranded systems built by Ingram Micro. AM Services Operation, Alpha Microsystems' information technology group, will provide onsite warranty and post-warranty support services, including help-desk support, and Omnitech will provide parts fulfillment for repairs.

Said Douglas R. Antone, executive vice president, Ingram Micro Inc., and president of Frameworks(TM), Total Integration Services: "We encourage our resellers to lead with a branded system, but we are sensitive to the fact that some end-users demand an unbranded solution. In these cases, our resellers want to provide an unbranded system that is backed by a dependable warranty. To this end, we have engaged the services of AM Services Operation (AMSO) and Omnitech -- each has a national presence, rapid deployment capabilities and a reputation for outstanding service. We think this warranty offering will be a value-add for our resellers."

How the Warranty Works

If end users experience a technical problem with their unbranded systems, they may call SupportWorks(TM) at (800) 780-7462. This Ingram Micro help desk is staffed by AMSO technicians. The technicians take incoming calls and diagnose the problem over the telephone. If technicians cannot coach end users to solve the problem, they can dispatch an onsite field technician for the next business day. If parts are required, AMSO contacts Omnitech, which then ships all necessary parts to the field technician.

"This agreement between Alpha Microsystems and Ingram Micro strengthens our position as one of North America's premier service and support companies for Fortune 500 companies, major distributors, OEMs and value-added resellers. We are pleased to be working with Ingram Micro, a company committed to quality and customer responsiveness," said Doug Tullio, chairman and chief executive officer of Alpha Microsystems.

Added Hollye Davidson, chief executive officer of Omnitech Gencorp: "This is a strategic agreement for Omnitech Gencorp in that we will have an opportunity to showcase our exceptionally high levels of performance to a customer that understands the true meaning of quality service. We are impressed with the enthusiasm and commitment of Ingram Micro and Alpha Microsystems, and look forward to being a valuable and dependable part of this exciting team."
