IT Distributor and Partners provide $10,000 in product to update Columbus Tustin Middle School’s Computer Lab; Ribbon Cutting Ceremony held on March 28
IRVINE, Calif., April 13, 2017 – Ingram Micro Inc. is pleased to announce Columbus Tustin Middle School as the winner of its second Great Education Giveaway IT Makeover contest.
Columbus Tustin Middle School, located just 15 minutes from Ingram Micro’s corporate headquarters in Irvine, Calif., was selected out of 275 submissions to receive over $10,000 in products and new equipment to completely update the school’s outdated computer lab. A ribbon-cutting ceremony unveiling the completely updated computer lab was held on March 28, 2017.
With the generous help of the following manufacture partners, Ingram Micro was able to provide the following:
- Dell donated 40 Full HD Touchscreen Laptops, 40 Led Display Monitors, 40 keyboards, 40 mice, 40 wired headsets, and five ladies totes and five premier briefcase bags for school staff.
- Brother provided four Monochrome Laser All-In-Ones printers, two Color Laser All-In-One printers, two wireless scanners, four label makers, two wireless scanners and four P-Touch Label machines.
- HP donated one Ink Jet multifunction and two Laser Jet printers.
- Ergotron provided two Charging Carts for the laptops.
- Kensington donated 50 locks for the laptops.
- MooreCo donated 25 Economy Shapes Configurable Student desks.
- Badgy provided one Card Printer for student ID cards.
- ILG and Califone provided electronic and ProAV products such as speakers and karaoke machines.
“Many of these children do not have access to computers or an internet connection at home, yet they need the same chance to dream big and learn digitally. Ingram Micro is proud to collaborate with Badgy, Brother, Califone, Dell, Ergotron, HP Inc., ILG, Kensington and MooreCo to provide students with updated equipment and give them access to a digital world that can be the fuel for creativity and new forms of education as the need for technical professionals becomes even more critical,” said Jennifer Anaya, vice president marketing, Ingram Micro.
As a Title 1 school, Columbus Tustin is a safe haven for its 900 students. Kids at the middle school face tough obstacles as many are first-generation English speakers and future first-generation college students with no access to technology at home. The winning submission, a video submitted by Tom Neforos, a Language Arts/Social Studies/Reading and Computer Applications teacher at the school, showed the outdated computer lab and equipment and explained the impact of what new equipment and a makeover could do for the students and staff at the school.
With the new computer lab, students will be able to learn computer skills in an updated environment with the latest state-of-art technology and equipment. The lab will be used to provide better access to a technology curriculum and allow a place for students to type assignments, do online research, print reports and participate in writing workshops.
“At Ingram Micro, giving back to the communities in which we live and work is an integral part of our company culture,” said Paul Bay, executive vice president and group president of the Americas, Ingram Micro. “Providing the opportunity to extend the love of technology to these children has been a truly memorable experience, and we are pleased to help equip them with the tools they need to thrive.”
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and school and we are extremely grateful to have been selected by Ingram Micro,” said Maggie Burdette, principal of Columbus Tustin Middle School. “We are absolutely thrilled about how the new computer lab turned out.”
The IT Makeover initiative was created and spearheaded by Ingram Micro Senior Marketing Account Manager Nancy Polanco. The first Ingram Micro IT Makeover winner – Dorris Place Elementary in Los Angeles, Calif., was selected in 2015.
