Ingram Micro Increases Mammoth-2 Inventory; World's Largest Technology Wholesaler Demonstrates Confidence in M2 Brand

BOULDER, Colo., May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Exabyte Corporation (NASDAQ:EXBT) , a performance leader in network backup systems, today announced that Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE:IM) , the world's largest wholesaler of technology products and services, has increased its inventory for Exabyte's Mammoth-2 (M2(TM)) tape drives to augment demand in coming months.

Ingram Micro began receiving the M2 tape drives at the end of 1999. Strong demand for this newly released product, rapidly depleted its initial inventory. Ingram responded by increasing its inventory allocations accordingly.

"Exabyte's continued focus on the enterprise storage marketplace has helped them excel in addressing business needs," said Bill Brooks, senior director, technical support, Ingram Micro. "The speed of the new Mammoth-2 drive makes backing up large volumes of data less time consuming -- an important consideration as data volumes grow and backup windows shrink."

"Ingram Micro is a powerhouse when it comes to technology distributors," said Bill Marriner, chief executive officer, chairman and president of Exabyte. "The company's success is predicated on investments in inventory that will move quickly. The fact that Ingram Micro wants to maintain its inventory for M2 confirms the company's confidence that M2 is a high-quality drive and satisfies a key need for IS departments. Additionally, Ingram's strong presence means our M2 drives will receive more exposure in marketplace."

M2 delivers twice the performance and 50 percent greater capacity than current competitive products. With a transfer rate of 12 MB/second and its 60 GB of capacity per cartridge, M2 can back up 43 GB in less than an hour (all specifications uncompressed), making it the premier tape drive in its class at an extremely competitive price point.
