Ingram Micro Forms U.S. Components Business Unit
to Target Growing Market Segment

Company Taps Established Business Units in Asia and Europe Creating a Global Network for Pre-Assembled Components Tailored to Servicing Technology Systems Builders

SANTA ANA, Calif., July 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Continuing its focus on profitable growth, Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE: IM) today announced the formation of its U.S. components business unit. The new business unit is designed to provide value-added resellers (VAR) and systems builders with the competitive pricing and fast response times needed to quickly and efficiently assemble unbranded PCs for resale into small- to mid-sized businesses (SMB).

According to IDC, 40 percent of SMBs own an unbranded PC, more than any other branded PC. Ingram Micro is using its established infrastructure to capture this market potential and reach the thousands of VARs serving the SMB market. The new business unit offers volume pricing, special bidding services, demand generation tools, technical support and just-in-time logistics for processors, hard disk drives, memory, motherboards and components -- all the primary components within today's unbranded PCs.

As with many of Ingram Micro's vendor customers, components manufacturers rely on the distributor for its proven, reliable and cost-effective channel to the SMB market, as well as its marketing infrastructure and customer reach.

"It's about speed and efficiency. Systems builders want the right products at competitive prices, exactly when they need them," said Pat Collins, senior group vice president of sales and marketing, Ingram Micro North America. "Our category management approach and dedicated business unit allow for real-time market information exchange between our customers and vendors, making Ingram Micro a stronger player in this space. And our experience in Asia and Europe gives us an edge in understanding market demand for global price and product life cycle management."

The U.S. components business unit offers products from vendors such as Intel, Seagate, AMD, Hitachi, Kingston Technologies, Maxtor, and Western Digital and is headed by Geno Marcoux, general manager/vice president, components business unit, Ingram Micro U.S.

The business unit is responsible for the sales, product management and purchasing of all components vendors and is focused on enabling a faster exchange of market demand information for greater inventory management, competitive pricing and logistical requirements.

"Ingram Micro has vast global experience with the components business and is a leading distributor in Asia in driving this business," said Steve Dallman, director of North American distribution channels at Intel. "We are excited about them bringing this components expertise to the North American market. The company has financial strength and a keen focus on the unique needs of this market, which we believe will make them a strong contributor to help Intel expand its business in the United States."
