Technology Company's Buffalo office turns clutter into donations, recycled assets
BUFFALO, NY, April 2016 – During the week leading to Earth Day, April 22, the Buffalo campus of Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE: IM) took some time to clean house, turning their clutter into charitable donations and disposing of old technology the environmentally responsible way.
The effort began with associates sifting through desks and conference rooms to gather unneeded office supplies, which were then donated to Buffalo city schools. Supplies included scissors, pens, staplers and more. The team then turned to inoperable technology, such as old keyboards, monitors and other unusable technology, encouraging associates to bring additional old devices from home. In the end, the office filled 11 pallets with broken or outdated technology for environmentally appropriate disposal through its own information technology asset disposal (ITAD) services. In all, associates recycled nearly 8,000 pounds of electronic waste and saved more than $10,000 in resources.
"Earth Day seemed the perfect fit for leveraging our own services to clear out unneeded and outdated technology in both the office and from our associates' homes, and disposing of it responsibly," said Tom Bamrick, executive director, Ingram Micro. "We'd like to grow this event a little each year here at our facility, but also offer these services to help other cities and our customers clean up old technology, which, unless disposed correctly, can be environmentally hazardous. It is another way we can support the communities that support us so generously."
