Ingram Micro Breaks Into Surveillance Market

Global IT Distributor Aligns With Top Manufacturers to Capture Market Growth And Deliver Security and Surveillance Solutions to Vertical Industries

SANTA ANA, Calif., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The IT industry's leading marketing and logistics powerhouse, Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE: IM), today announced it has teamed with leading manufacturers Axis, Cisco, HP, Proxim and Sony to help solution providers in the United States address the growing need for advanced security and surveillance solutions.

Dubbed as "Target: Surveillance," Ingram Micro's new solution set helps its customers and vendors identify, address, sell and service the technology driven surveillance and security needs of vertical industries including education, enterprise, government, military, retail and transportation.

"As demand for heightened security and surveillance solutions increases, the need for advanced products, systems and services rises," said Kevin Murai, president, Ingram Micro North America. "By working alongside our customers and vendors, we're bringing to market customized technology solutions that marry traditional security measures such as cameras and video with the power and efficiency of digital and wireless technologies. The results are dramatically increased security levels matched by previously unattainable surveillance, integration and communications capabilities, in addition to a stronger return on investment."

According to IDC Digital Camera and Scanner Program Manager Ron Glaz, IP monitoring camera shipments are expected to achieve an average growth rate of 77 percent between 2002 and 2006. In addition, industry analyst JP Freeman and Co. Inc. states network cameras have emerged as the fastest growing product category and are forecast to comprise more than half of the security camera market by 2007, with revenue of $500 million in the United States alone. To this end, Ingram Micro is also placing heavy emphasis on educating and training its solution provider customers on the market opportunity.

For example, on August 7, 2003, the company held its first security and surveillance education seminar. Targeted at a select group of solutions provider customers interested in breaking into the market or simply learning more about the surveillance opportunities, this one-day event included a number of product-specific training sessions as well as live solution demonstrations and market intelligence briefings. It also featured a roundtable discussion where solution providers, Ingram Micro experts and security and surveillance manufacturers, openly discussed market challenges, opportunities and happenings.

"Ingram Micro's focus on surveillance rings of big opportunity for CHIPS' existing security practice. The synergy between surveillance and security is undeniable and by taking advantage of Ingram Micro's market expertise and qualified resources, we're ready to hit the street and capture more sales and new service opportunities," said Evan Leonard, president, CHIPS Computer Consulting LLC, a VentureTech member.

Furthering the sales and services opportunity, Ingram Micro has dedicated a number of resources to help its solution provider customers and IT manufacturing partners meet market demands. For its customers, this includes field sales engineers, specialized technical support services, lead generation and extended finance and credit terms. The company also offers marketing collateral and industry intelligence to inform the end user on the benefits that new technologies will bring to their business or venue.

For IT manufacturers, Ingram Micro brings to the table a premier group of qualified solution providers who are certified in today's most popular networking, security and wireless technologies. In addition, the company serves as a conduit for encouraging and building strategic alliances between complimentary manufacturers and helps market complete surveillance solutions to interested solution providers. Ingram Micro also provides its manufacturers and vendors with detailed diagrams demonstrating the most common technology surveillance solutions for small- to mid-sized enterprises, as well as small- to mid-sized businesses.

Another valuable service offering is Ingram Micro's Solution Center -- a multifunctional development, testing and training lab for solution providers and manufacturers. This state-of-the-art center features in-demand security and surveillance technologies along with advanced business class and enterprise-level products from more than 65 manufacturers and software developers. The Solution Center is available to Ingram Micro's solution providers and their customers for product demonstrations, training and certifications.
