Formerly chief information officer (CIO), Abramo, who reports to Ingram Micro chief executive officer Kent Foster, is responsible for corporate marketing, strategy and planning, and global IT initiatives.

Ingram Micro also announced the appointment of Chris Dearing as chief technology officer (CTO). Dearing, a 17-year IT veteran and a consultant with CMGI Solutions, a leading e-business solutions provider, will serve as CTO on a contract basis. The company chose Dearing to capitalize on his vast experience in advanced systems development and for the flexibility and technical expertise that partnering can provide.

"These new appointments reflect the changing dynamics of information technology as a core component to our global business and market strategy," said Kent Foster, chairman and chief executive officer, Ingram Micro Inc. "In his role as CIO, Guy has demonstrated his leadership as a change agent by strategically positioning the company for the future. He is a visionary and Ingram Micro can embrace his strategic marketing and consulting background to become a leader in global e-business and supply chain management services."

Abramo joined Ingram Micro in October 1998 as senior vice president of worldwide marketing. In March 1999, he was assigned to form the eSolutions Group, Ingram Micro's integrated approach to Web initiatives combining marketing and information-technology resources. He was named CIO in January 2000 with primary responsibility for driving the company's global IT strategy and implementation. In his new capacity, he will continue to oversee the company's day-to-day IT and eSolutions operations, while regaining worldwide responsibility for corporate marketing and branding, and adding strategic planning and implementation responsibilities.

Dearing will report to Abramo and is responsible for developing next-generation IT deployments, including research and development, as well as infrastructure planning, design and architecture. Dearing will work with Ingram Micro associates and the CMGI Solutions team to develop and implement technology solutions that help the company remain on the cutting edge of technology and support the strategic business direction spearheaded by Abramo. Dearing and CMGI Solutions have established a solid track record with Ingram Micro with support for key initiatives such as http://www.ingrammicro.com/, one of the world's largest business-to-business Web sites, and the company's RosettaNet initiatives.

"As my role expands, we need an expert technologist like Chris with a shared vision for deploying the right solutions to meet Ingram Micro's future business objectives," Abramo said. "Chris, CMGI Solutions and our internal teams will be key components in the quest to use technology as a business enabler and our competitive advantage. Ingram Micro's IT function has the breadth and depth of experience to manage large legacy systems and develop burgeoning e-commerce platforms."

Experience and Background

Abramo joined Ingram Micro from Norwalk, Conn.-based Yankelovich Partners, one of the world's premier marketing and consulting firms. Prior to Yankelovich, he was managing director, marketing intelligence, for KPMG Consulting, responsible for practice management, partner alliances and business development.

Abramo earned a bachelor of science in chemical engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and holds a master of business administration degree from Georgetown University.

Dearing has more than 17 years of experience in building a variety of technology and business solutions for large enterprises. He joined CMGI Solutions in 1989, previously known as Tallan/BDS, and is instrumental in delivering high-quality mission-critical systems to CMGI Solutions' largest clients.
