Ingram Micro Announces Retirement of David R. Dukes

SANTA ANA, Calif., Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE:IM) , the world's leading wholesale distributor of technology products and services, today announced that vice chairman David R. Dukes, 53, will retire from the company following the annual shareholders meeting on May 6, 1998. He will remain with the company through May to ensure a smooth transition of his responsibilities.

Dukes joined Ingram Micro in 1989 and has held several key executive positions including president and chief operating officer, co-chairman and vice chairman. He is credited with having been a key advocate in the industry for the two-tier distribution model and open sourcing. In addition, he co- founded and served as CEO of Ingram Alliance, the company's highly successful aggregation business. Dukes has spent the last several months developing market opportunities in Asia-Pacific, culminating in the company's equity investment in Electronic Resources Limited, one of the leading Asian distributors.

Dukes said, "I am extremely fortunate to be in a position where I can retire from my active role with Ingram Micro to spend more time with my wife and our children. However, I do plan to stay very much involved in the industry as a strong proponent of the channel, focusing on crucial initiatives such as the establishment of electronic commerce standards."

"David has been a dynamic leader in the evolution of the wholesale distribution channel," said Jerre L. Stead, chairman and chief executive officer, "as well as a key spokesperson on issues that have shaped the industry. We are very pleased with his commitment to remain involved in the industry, and are very grateful for the many contributions he has made to the channel and to our company. We all wish him the very best."

"Ingram Micro's greatest strength lies in its exemplary global management team and world class associates," Dukes continued. "I leave with a great sense of pride in having been part of that team for so many years."
