Ingram Micro Announces Plans for 550,000-Square-Foot Pan-European Distribution Center

European Facility Will Serve The Netherlands, Germany and Belgium

SANTA ANA, Calif., and HEERLEN, The Netherlands, June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE:IM) , the world's leading wholesale distributor of technology products and services, today announced plans for the construction of one of the largest and most technologically advanced distribution centers in Europe. The 550,000-square-foot facility will be located in Heerlen, The Netherlands.

The groundbreaking for the Pan-European center is planned for September 1998, and is scheduled for completion in early 2000. The facility will serve the Benelux and German markets, and is strategically located on the Dutch/German border with easy access to airports, railways and roadways. The center is in close proximity to the company's recently announced channel assembly center in 's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, and will have the potential capacity to support 40,000 pallet locations and up to 15,000 stock keeping units (SKUs) when fully operational.

"This is a very exciting event for Ingram Micro," said Philip D. Ellett, executive vice president and president, Ingram Micro Europe. "This first-of- its-kind Pan-European distribution center will allow us to deliver even more efficient and effective service levels to our customers. We're delighted to grow and expand in this key geographic region."

"The Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA), the Province of Limburg, the city of Heerlen and the Limburg Development Company (LIOF) are very pleased with this success," said Heer Pleumeekers, mayor of Heerlen. "The investment project will have a major impact on Heerlen and its surrounding area. In addition, to the direct employment which will result from this project, it is anticipated that the size and efficiency of this new operation will attract other suppliers to locate here, generating more business for the local community. The project will further strengthen the ICT infrastructure, identified by the province of Limburg and LIOF as a key field of interest for the region."
