Ingram Micro Announces Groundbreaking of Northeast Distribution Center

Technology Distributor to Build 600,000 Sq. Ft Facility with Expansion Potential of Up to One Million Sq. Ft.

SANTA ANA, Calif. and HARRISBURG, Penn., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE:IM) , the world's leading wholesale distributor of technology products and services, today announced its plans to build a 600,000 sq. ft. Northeast distribution center in Lickdale, Penn., which is approximately 18 miles from Harrisburg.

Construction of the new center, which has the potential to be expanded to more than one million square feet, is scheduled to begin October 1, 1998. The building will be located on a 100-acre site. Ingram Micro has contracted with High Construction, Inc., of Lancaster, Penn. to build the facility.

The company expects to occupy the new center by late 1999. At that time, the current 230,000-sq. ft. facility in Harrisburg, Penn. will be relocated to the new center. In addition to Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge, more than 100 associates, dignitaries and Ingram Micro executives are scheduled to attend the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, July 14 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

"When we decided to expand our company's operations, we looked at all of our options, including locations in other states," said Sanat Dutta, executive vice president Ingram Micro Inc. and president Ingram Micro U.S. "But our current workforce in central Pennsylvania and Gov. Ridge's commitment to helping companies grow and create jobs, made Pennsylvania an obvious choice. Gov. Ridge knows that computer technology is driving today's global economy and worked closely with us to make this expansion a reality."

"Ingram Micro's decision to expand its northeast distribution center in central Pennsylvania is proof positive that we have a highly skilled workforce that knows what it takes to get the job done," said Gov. Tom Ridge.

"In less than a decade, Ingram Micro has grown into the world's largest wholesale distributor of high-tech products. The infusion of computer technology is impacting Pennsylvania's economy and society in ways never dreamt of just a few years ago. That is why my administration will continue to work hard to bring to Pennsylvania jobs that fuel the technology industry. We welcome Ingram Micro's expansion and the new jobs it will bring to Lebanon County."
