Ingram Micro Announces Expanded Executive Roles in Worldwide Operations, Facilities

Furtado Oversees Macrotron Integration; Tysseland Promoted to Sr. VP U.S. Operations; LaPlante Named Sr. VP Facilities & Security Worldwide

SANTA ANA, Calif., Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Ingram Micro Inc., (NYSE:IM) the world's leading wholesale distributor of technology products and services, today announced a series of executive appointments and promotions to bolster its worldwide operations and logistics. Robert Furtado's, 42, role as senior vice president, operations for the U.S. has been expanded to senior vice president, global operations and logistics. In this global capacity, Furtado will report to Jeffrey R. Rodek, president and worldwide chief operating officer for Ingram Micro.

Terry Tysseland, 57, was recently promoted from vice president, distribution operations to senior vice president, operations for the North American region. Tysseland will report to Sanat Dutta, executive vice president and president, Ingram Micro North America. In addition, Paul LaPlante, 53, vice president, facilities services, has been named senior vice president, facilities and security-worldwide, also reporting to Rodek.

For at least the next six months, Furtado will work out of Munich, Germany to oversee the integration of Ingram Macrotron -- Ingram Micro's newest European acquisition and its largest European market -- on behalf of Phillip Ellett, executive vice president, Ingram Micro and president, Ingram Micro Europe. In this role, he will continue to chair the company's Global Logistics Council, which looks at the best practices in the industry and the future design of global logistics infrastructure and systems. Following his current Ingram Macrotron assignment, Furtado's duties will continue to focus on global logistics, with an expanded scope of responsibilities for all Ingram Micro global regions.

In his new role, Tysseland will be responsible for the operation of Ingram Micro's domestic distribution centers, returns centers and consolidation center, as well as operations logistics, transportation, systems and engineering. Tysseland joined the company in November 1996 and was instrumental in developing a logistics study to increase the cost effectiveness of five regional distribution centers. His most recent duties included the oversight of day-to-day operations for 10 of the company's U.S. distribution centers.

As senior vice president, facilities and security-worldwide, LaPlante will be responsible for providing facilities management for the company's current base of almost 8 million square feet of facilities. He will continue to focus on the planning and development of global facilities and state-of-the-art sorting systems and provide effective security programs for Ingram Micro associates, facilities and inventories.

Since joining Ingram Micro in March 1995, LaPlante has developed over 4 million square feet of additional space in support of the company's worldwide requirements, including site selection and construction at its distribution center in Millington, Tenn. -- one of the company's largest at 600,000 square feet. During his tenure, he managed several expansion projects in response to the company's rapid growth as the world's largest distributor of technology products and services. Before being promoted to vice president of facilities in December 1995, LaPlante was senior director of facilities services.
