Ingram Micro Announces European Integration Center

Company to acquire assembly assets of Tulip Computers

SANTA ANA, Calif., May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Ingram Micro Inc.(NYSE:IM) , the world's leading wholesale distributor of technology products and services, today announced an agreement with The Netherlands-based Koninklijke Begemann Group N.V. to acquire the assembly facilities of Tulip Computer N.V.

The Ingram Micro acquisition of the Tulip assets is contingent upon The Begemann Group's successful completion of its purchase of Tulip, which remains subject to reaching definitive agreement on certain aspects of the transaction and receipt of all required approvals. The parties have initially targeted early June 1998 as the possible closing date for these transactions.

Ingram Micro will acquire a long-term lease for approximately 18,200m2 of assembly, warehouse and office space located in 's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, and certain equipment and other assets related to the assembly and warehouse operations. The current capacity of the facility is approximately 1.1 million units per year. In addition, Ingram Micro also plans to extend offers of employment to approximately 145 Tulip employees.

"We are extremely pleased to announce the second of our five planned global integration centers," said Ed Pensel, senior vice president, global channel assembly. "The Netherlands facility is a highly automated plant employing experienced people using state-of-the-art manufacturing systems, i.e., SAP. The facility is strategically located, providing a centralized hub to better serve our Frameworks customers in Europe."

Frameworks(TM) Total Integration Services is Ingram Micro's worldwide channel assembly and configuration initiative that delivers customized, fully- tested systems to resellers. The first global integration center was announced on March 11, 1998 in Memphis, Tenn.

As part of the transaction, Ingram Micro expects to enter into an agreement with Tulip to provide assembly services for its products.
