Ingram Micro and Partners Provide IT Makeover for Los Angeles Elementary School
Distributor and Manufacturers Help Students Realize the Promise of Technology(TM)

SANTA ANA, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/08/15 -- Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE: IM) is pleased to announce Dorris Place Elementary School as the winner of its recent IT Makeover Contest. Dorris Place, a Title I school in East Los Angeles, received all-new equipment for its computer lab thanks to the following manufacturer partners:

  • Samsung donated 40 Chromebook 2 computers with Intel Inside®, 12 Galaxy Tab 4 Education tablets, one printer, one 65" LFD display, one Touch Overlay, and one MagicInfo Whiteboard Software solution.
  • Xerox provided four multifunction printers and has pledged to supply toner for the remainder of the school year.
  • Seagate provided storage equipment including 40 2TB Backup Plus Portable Drives.
  • NEC has donated four large-format display solutions.
  • Kensington donated 40 mice and computer locks, 12 tablet cases, and several wireless printers.
  • GeoVision provided security surveillance cameras to monitor the school building.
  • Peerless-AV provided four Flat Panel Floor Carts for displays.
  • Ergotron donated one Tablet/Chromebook Charging Cart and one Tablet Charging Wall Unit.
  • Kingston donated 350 USB drives.
  • V7 donated 40 keyboards.
  • NG IT Solutions and C1P Solutions provided installation of the technology.

Dorris Place Elementary School is a high-performing but underfunded K-6 school where more than 80 percent of students receive free or reduced price lunch. The winning submission, an essay by 8-year-old Gala Lennane-Gordon, detailed the students' inability to continue learning necessary computer skills and receive online tutoring due to malfunctioning and nearly decade-old equipment. Students also struggled to prepare for the new Smarter Balance online, standardized test without regular access to current technology.

"I don't want us to score low and be labeled [negatively]," Lennane-Gordon wrote. "I want us to do our best and be recognized for how special we are."

With the new equipment, students will be able to practice on computers before taking the state standardized test. Additionally, the school can provide better access to a technology curriculum that will serve students in the future, including Microsoft Office skills and typing, and will re-open after-school computer programs, including a math skills lab and online tutoring, which closed due to insufficient technology.

"These children are a worthwhile investment, and many don't have access to computers at home. We're setting the children up for success by offering these classes," said Blaire Lennane, Gala's mother and founder of the nonprofit organization Partners of Dorris, which fundraises for Dorris Place Elementary School.

"At Ingram Micro, serving the community is a vital part of our company culture," said Paul Bay, executive vice president and president North America, Technology Solutions. "Getting to extend the love of technology to these children has been a truly memorable experience, and we are pleased to help equip them with the tools they need to thrive."

"We are over the moon about this," said Susan D. Schmidt, principal of Dorris Place. "This is a terrific opportunity for our children; we are extremely grateful and excited."

The IT Makeover initiative was created and spearheaded by Ingram Micro Senior Marketing Account Manager Nancy Polanco.
