Council to Drive Global Industry Standards Including Electronic Commerce Initiatives
CHICAGO, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Nine of the world's leading wholesale distributors of computer products and services have joined forces to establish the Global Technology Distribution Council (GTDC). The inaugural meeting was held in Santa Ana, Calif. on January 8, 1998, and was co-hosted by two of the member companies, Ingram Micro Inc. and MicroAge.
The GTDC unites the world's largest and most powerful constituents in the channel to further promote the benefits of two-tier distribution, and drive the development of much needed industry standards. The council's founding membership includes CHS Electronics, Inc.; Computer 2000 AG; Electronic Resources Ltd.; Ingram Micro, Inc.; Merisel Inc.; MicroAge; Synnexx Information Technologies Inc.; Tech Data Corp. and Tech Pacific Holdings Ltd.
David R. Dukes serves as chairman of the Global Technology Distribution Council and also as chair of a newly formed electronic commerce (ECOM) executive committee. "The council provides a rare opportunity for otherwise fierce competitors to join together to speak with one voice on issues that are most important to our industry. It also establishes an equal forum representing the interests of the channel in key geographic regions including Europe, North America, Asia Pacific and Latin America."
With increasingly more business conducted on the World Wide Web and the expansion of the Internet and Extranets, electronic commerce has become the council's first endeavor to drive the creation of standards. As a result, The ECOM Standards Initiative has been established in conjunction with The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), a trade organization serving more than 6,000 computer resellers, VARs, distributors and manufacturers.
Council meetings will be held regularly and hosted by members on a rotating basis. The next meeting is scheduled for May 19, 1998, in Miami, Fla., and will be co-hosted by CHS and Tech Data.
